The beauty of waiting

Have you ever stood at life’s crossroads, feeling the pull to walk away from the familiar yet paralyzed by the unknown ahead? In such moments, we realize that letting go is not merely a choice but a necessity for growth.

In one of his insightful articles, Gian Maria Zapelli delves into the struggle we face when our current experiences no longer bring satisfaction. He paints a picture of the moment we decide to leave behind a job, a relationship, or a life chapter that has withered. Understanding what we no longer desire does not instantly grant us a vision of what we seek. It's akin to navigating an uncharted world without our familiar landmarks.

Gian Maria continued, challenging the notion that our inability to envision the future is a sign of weakness or lack of courage. This paralysis is not whimsical but a proof to the genuine fatigue and pain from a reality we yearn to change. Knowing it's time to detach does not require an immediate direction for our next steps.

Another approach could be a radical shift in perspective: embracing the art of waiting. Instead of relentlessly chasing the next achievement, we could cultivate a generative state of anticipation.

Waiting, as he describes, is not a passive state but a rich, liberating experience. It’s a mental discipline where we surrender control and open ourselves to the potential of what may come, trusting in the emergence of new paths.

By choosing to wait with hope and patience, we allow a transformation in how we perceive our current situations and feelings. This hopeful mindset can spark new questions, insights, and emotions, propelling us into motion without the need for immediate conclusions or resignations. It's in this waiting that we can truly free our senses and thoughts, allowing the future to unfold in its own time.

Perhaps, concludes Gian Maria, like waiting in a train station, we can either fret over the unproductive minutes or we can immerse ourselves in the act of waiting, observing life around us. And in that observation, we might discover astonishing details of humanity and, just maybe, find that we no longer need to board that particular train.
