DEI isn't about giving a free pass to the unqualified

DEI is about finally seeing those who’ve always had the skills, the talent, the drive, but were invisible because of bias.
DEI is about people who didn’t get the interview, the promotion, or the seat at the table, not because they weren’t good enough, but because someone assumed they weren’t.
And let’s be honest, what’s being called “woke” or “divisive” today? Among the others:
Trainings that help teams recognize their blind spots
Mentorships that open doors for those who never had one
Hiring based on real competence, not background or appearance
Pay equity checks asking a simple question: are we being fair?
Holding leaders accountable for building truly inclusive workplaces
Showing real people in our campaigns not just one version of success
Investing in communities that have long been excluded
This isn’t about guilt or politics.
It’s about dignity.
It’s about making sure talent doesn’t go to waste just because it wasn’t born in the “right” place, with the “right” name, or the “right” face.
And this is something we should remember every time we talk about fairness. Period.
